1. Do I need to take a class to use the shop or can I come in and get right to work?
Regardless of experience level, you must complete the appropriate safety orientation to utilize the corresponding machinery. Our safety orientations are 3 hour, one time events, on average.
2. Can I bring someone with me to work in the shop?
Anyone on the shop floor must have an active membership. You may invite a client or visitor onto the shop floor for a tour after signing our liability waiver. If you need temporary help or support for your work we do offer a helper membership. We also offer dedicated shop tech support at a rate of $20 per 20 minutes. Please ask a member of staff for details.
3. Do you have time limits on machinery?
No. However, to avoid the monopolization of one machine we maintain a daily allowance of 2 hours and a monthly allowance of 16 hours, per machine. Typical excess charges beyond the allowances ranges from $20 – $30 per hour.
4. Do you supply materials on site?
We do not have materials onsite. However, local suppliers offer a discount with a Maketory membership. Please ask a member of staff for details.
5. Can I leave items or in progress work on the shop floor?
Any items left at Maketory must be stored in one of our storage units or private work areas. Any items left on the shop floor overnight will be tagged and charged $20 per night.
6. Can I ship items to the facility?
Yes. You may ship items to and from Maketory as long as you are here to receive them or send them out. We recommend coordinating directly with the shipping provider to establish a delivery time. Maketory is not responsible for any damaged or lost items.
7. Can I cancel my membership at any time?
Our memberships come with an annual commitment for your first year. Memberships are non refundable and non transferable. However, if you are leaving the San Diego area on a permanent basis we will cancel your membership after receiving a proof of move document.
8. Do you offer 24/7 access?
Our coworking members with a private office receive 24/7 access to our facility except for the shop floor. The main shop floor is open during business hours only.
9. Is there an age limit to be a member?
Yes. Anyone on the shop floor must be 18 years of age or older. If you are 16-17 years of age you may be eligible for a membership with a parent or guardian’s approval, after signing a waiver.
